How Santander Cashback Works
Cashback is earned on eligible purchases made with your Santander card. Eligible purchases include goods or services paid for by you or any additional cardholder.
Some transactions are excluded from earning cashback. Mintify provides a detailed table of these exclusions below. Always check the terms that apply to your account, as Santander may change them at any time.
Cashback is calculated monthly and added to your account on the next statement date. If your account is closed or suspended before then, any unpaid cashback will not be added. You must still always pay at least the amount shown on your statement by the due date.

Mintip: Cashback paid into your account won’t count towards your minimum payment. That means you’ll need to continue to pay the minimum payment shown on your statement by the payment date.
Earns cashback
- Purchases of goods and services made by you
- Purchases made by an additional cardholder on your card
Does not earn cashback
- Balance transfers
- Cash transactions
- Travellers’ cheques or foreign currency
- Interest
- Unauthorised or fraudulent transactions
- Any account charges
- Purchases you cancel or are refunded
- Purchases which take you over your credit limit

Mintip: Watch out for the monthly cashback cap. The Edge and All in One cards cap cashback at £10/month. Once you’ve hit that, further spending won’t earn extra cashback.
How Cashback works: What really matters.
What happens if I get a refund for a purchase?
Refunded purchases are deducted from your total eligible spend for that statement month. If the refund is larger than your eligible purchases, the result will be a negative cashback figure. Santander does not take this negative amount from your account, and your cashback will reset to zero at the start of the next month.
Does cashback count towards my minimum payment?
No. Cashback credited to your account will not reduce the minimum payment shown on your statement. You’ll still need to make at least the minimum payment by the due date.
What about purchases made by additional cardholders?
Cashback earned on additional cardholders’ spending is paid into the main account holder’s card account.
Can Santander change the cashback terms?
Yes. Santander can change the cashback rate, cap, or even remove cashback. If the change is not in your favour, you’ll receive at least 30 days’ notice. If the change benefits you, it may take effect immediately, and Santander will notify you within 30 days. Notices may be sent by post, email, statement messages, or via online and mobile banking.
Santander World Elite Mastercard: Santander’s premium credit card
This is Santander’s premium card. It suits frequent travellers and higher-spending customers who will make full use of the lounge access, no foreign transaction fees, and cashback. The £15 monthly fee means it only makes sense if the combined rewards and benefits outweigh the cost. For occasional travellers or lower spenders, other Santander cards are likely to offer better value.
